Session 3 (Technology in Education)

Okay, I would share you why we need technology in Education.
Based from my lecturer explanation and my thought.

My lecturer, Mr. Syai asked :
Why should we integrate technology into education?’and What might be the negative impact of technology on learning?” Support your responses by providing links to websites, journal article, online videos, audios, podcast, or newspaper articles etc.

Technology is ubiquitous, touching almost every part of our lives, our communities, our homes. Yet most schools lag far behind when it comes to integrating technology into classroom learning. Many are just beginning to explore the true potential tech offers for teaching and learning. Properly used, technology will help students acquire the skills they need to survive in a complex, highly technological knowledge-based economy.

 

Integrating technology into classroom instruction means more than teaching basic computer skills and software programs in a separate computer class. Effective tech integration must happen across the curriculum in ways that research shows deepen and enhance the learning process. In particular, it must support four key components of learning: active engagement, participation in groups, frequent interaction and feedback, and connection to real-world experts. Effective technology integration is achieved when the use of technology is routine and transparent and when technology supports curricular goals.

Many people believe that technology-enabled project learning is the ne plus ultra of classroom instruction. Learning through projects while equipped with technology tools allows students to be intellectually challenged while providing them with a realistic snapshot of what the modern office looks like. Through projects, students acquire and refine their analysis and problem-solving skills as they work individually and in teams to find, process, and synthesize information they've found online.

Technology not only have positive, but there are some negative for the using of technology, like what ? like this:

First, technology changes the way children think. Using technology can changes children's brain. As the times, student in elementary school has gotten many homework that they must get in search engines. It is real happened to my nieces. Sometimes it can becomes good at finding information but not good at remembering. Because they only search, copy and paste. They think that they do not need learn or remember it just because the homework only for submitted without giving feedback or any correction.
Second, technology changes the way children feel. Using technology can affect a child's ability to empathize. Children who has spent on the internet for hours will influence difficulty the way they social. For instance, children who has parents that busy in the work. And then, they only facilitate their child with technology as like smartphone or laptop. Here conflict is the child will be more comfort social with cyberspace than real life because they spent her times to game online or chatting.
Third, Technology can put privacy and safety at risk. Improper use of technology can expose a child to numerous risks. As we know that there are many online sex crimes that dangerous against children. For instance, in chatting, there is teenager who join chat web. Maybe in the first she does not has intention bad thing. But, once another user bullied her, she will be participated within it. Of course, it disturb the teenager privacy and maybe she will be in the risk.
Fourth, more use of technology with less physical. Childhood obesity is on the rise and technology may be to blame. For instance, sometimes we feel much fun to use technology as like computer, television, smartphone, etc. We much spend to use this till we feel tired and lazy to do another, moreover if we sleep late night and then get up late also. So there is no physical activity in morning and exercise less to do another activity. It also can cause obesity.

Thus, four negatives side of technology can be avoided if there is attention or monitor by the parents or the teacher of course by the user itself. As we know that all many things in the world has postive and negative impact.  So we also can not blame of technology presence. Just be smart to use technology wisely!
